Concubine's Tear - wolf hair for Chinese calligraphy sumie painting collectors brush
This brush is expensive because of its pure wolf hair tip and the material of the handle - Xiang Fei Zhu, the literal meaning of which is the Concubine Bamboo.
The tale says that in ancient times, Emperor Shun sacrificed himself to bring peace to the commoners. His two Concubines cried so hard for nine days and nights and died beside his tomb. The tear was spread to the Bamboos in Jiuning Mountains and colored the bamboos into spots.
Back to the brush itself. With small wolf hair tip, it is perfect for writing small characters and creating lines and dots in sumie painting.
